OUR CAMPAIGN
Dear Friends,
Today I, Swati Maliwal Jai Hind wish to make an appeal to you. A few days back, I was informed that an 8 month old baby was brutally raped in the national capital. I can't describe what I felt at that moment. I immediately rushed to the hospital even though the prospect of facing the little baby terrified me. A child who has not yet learnt how to laugh, was brutally crushed by a 27 year old criminal who left her to die in a pool of blood. She sustained inhuman injuries and battled for her life in the ICU. When I saw that little angel howling in pain, I felt that something inside me died forever.

This 8 month old baby is the daughter of our country. It is not the rape of an innocent child but the rape of our entire nation. Sexual violence must end. We demand strongest punishment for rapists of all children within 6 months. This will create deterrence and instill fear in the minds of criminals.

In order to urge the Government to meet our demand, I have launched a ‘Satyagraha’ from 31st January 2018. I have pledged not to return home until 8 March – International Women’s Day. Until then, the Delhi Commission for Women shall remain open 24 * 7 and I will work three times.

We hope that through this, a people’s movement is initiated in the country. When thousands of people demand a change, it is bound to happen. Our efforts are incomplete without you.

Center and State need to set up additional fast track courts to ensure that cases of rapes of children and women are tried on a daily basis. Currently, long dates in the courts break the morale of the survivor

Go to STRENGTHENING POLICE AND THEIR CAPACITY

STRENGTHENING POLICE AND THEIR CAPACITY

Delhi Police has been demanding 66,000 police personnel from the Centre for the past 10 years but have not been provided the same. As a result, every police station in Delhi is presently operating at half its sanctioned strength. The required police per sonnel mus t be immediately provided to Delhi Police to curb the growing crimes in the Capital.

Every day, instances of rapes of little children are reported in the country. Recently an eight-monthold infant was brutally raped in the national capital by a 27-year-old man. She was found in a pool of blood and has sustained critical injuries. Her gut-wrenching cries reverberated in the entire ICU and left us angry and devastated. One shudders every time one thinks of her agony. Despite having made a mark in the world on several fronts, the entire nation today stands defeated in front of this baby. It is a matter of great shame that Delhi, the nation's capital is now perceived as 'the rape capital' of the world. According to the Delhi Police, between 2012 and 2014, 31,446 cases of crimes against women and girls were reported in Delhi alone, of which only 150 cases resulted in convictions! Even Nirbhaya has failed to get justice in our country till now, as her culprits are still alive despite having been convicted by the law, long ago. Sent Letter to PM
