Today I, Swati Maliwal Jai Hind wish to make an appeal to you. A few days back, I was informed that an 8 month old baby was brutally raped in the national capital. I can't describe what I felt at that moment. I immediately rushed to the hospital even though the prospect of facing the little baby terrified me. A child who has not yet learnt how to laugh, was brutally crushed by a 27 year old criminal who left her to die in a pool of blood. She sustained inhuman injuries and battled for her life in the ICU. When I saw that little angel howling in pain, I felt that something inside me died forever.
This 8 month old baby is the daughter of our country. It is not the rape of an innocent child but the rape of our entire nation. Sexual violence must end. We demand strongest punishment for rapists of all children within 6 months. This will create deterrence and instill fear in the minds of criminals.
In order to urge the Government to meet our demand, I have launched a ‘Satyagraha’ from 31st January 2018. I have pledged not to return home until 8 March – International Women’s Day. Until then, the Delhi Commission for Women shall remain open 24 * 7 and I will work three times.
We hope that through this, a people’s movement is initiated in the country. When thousands of people demand a change, it is bound to happen. Our efforts are incomplete without you.
